Pupil Premium

Background
Each financial year, schools receive a 'pupil premium' - an additional amount allocated to schools, per pupil, whose families are in receipt of free school meals (anytime in the previous six year), children who are looked after or children whose parents are in the armed forces. Schools use this additional funding to support these pupils. Schools can decide how the Pupil Premium is spent, since they are best placed to assess what additional provision should be made for the individual pupils, within their responsibility.

Am I Eligible For Pupil Premium Support?

Your child may be entitled to Free School Meals and therefore Pupil Premium if you are in receipt of any of the qualifying benefits listed below:

  •         Income Support
  •         Income-based Jobseeker’s Allowance
  •         Income-related Employment and Support Allowance
  •         Support under Part VI of the Immigration and Asylum Act 1999
  •         The guaranteed element of Pension Credit
  •         Child Tax Credit (provided you’re not also entitled to Working Tax Credit and have an annual gross income of no more than £16,190)
  •         Working Tax Credit run-on – paid for 4 weeks after you stop qualifying for Working Tax Credit
  •         Universal Credit – if you apply on or after 1 April 2018 your household income must be less than £7,400 a year (after tax and not including any benefits you get)

If you are eligible, it is important to apply even if your child is in Reception, Year 1 or Year 2 as although they all receive Universal free school meals, this does not provide the additional Pupil Premium Grant.

How to register:

Apply via the online portal available on the Gloucestershire County Council’s website: https://www.gloucestershire.gov.uk/education-and-learning/free-school-meals/apply-for-free-school-meals/

If you would like support with completing the application or would like a paper copy of the form, please speak to Mrs Saddington in the school office who will be happy to help.

You will receive an instant response as to whether you are entitled to free school meals once you have submitted your claim. All you need is your National Insurance Number and a current email address.

When your application is received, your eligibility will be checked with the Department for Education, Department for Work and Pensions and HM Revenue and Customs. If unsuccessful, children in Reception, Year 1 and Year 2 will still receive universal infant free school meals.
